Road Safety

The Fairfield toddlers have been learning all about the colours of traffic lights during our road safety week, they have organised and categorised according to the variety of properties of the items. We have enjoyed playing in the small world area with our “city” where we have talked about different buildings and what they are, looking at familiar print in the environment such as petrol stations and supermarkets and if we can recognise any of them. We have used cars in paint to make tracks on our paper, watching the marks we leave behind on the paper as we push the vehicle along.

Our preschool children enjoy talking about how we keep safe at the side of the road, looking at different professions relating to road safety such as fireman, police, lollypop people. We used our increasing abilities to use on handed tools for a purpose and worked very hard cutting out our own traffic light, deciding what colours we needed and assessing the progress made when cutting in a straight line, adjusting direction or grasp of the scissors. We talked about what keeps us safe at the side of the road, the children told us they need to hold the hand of a grown up and look before you cross the road.
