Fundraising Together for Charity
Every year we ask our staff team and parents to choose a charity close to their hearts. This year Portland Nurseries will be supporting the local charity Yorkshire Children's Centre.
By raising money and awareness we can help ensure that YCC can continue their amazing work supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

Fresh Futures (formerly Yorkshire Children's Centre)
Established in 1974, Fresh Futures is a regional charity that supports vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, and their families, within Kirklees and surrounding areas.
Their vision is for all young people to have opportunities for a better life, now and in the future. They aim to ‘Improve lives and Inspire change’ and, through their four interwoven strands of work – Education, Health & Wellbeing, Employability & Skills, and Relationships – all helping to drive equality of opportunity and social justice forward – empowering individuals to make positive life choices and be the best they can be.

Why we fundraise at Portland Nurseries?
Fundraising at Portland Nurseries is not only about raising money but raising awareness, supporting a cause that we believe in; giving out a positive message; helping a charity that is close to our hearts; bringing our nursery community together, the parents, the children, relatives and the staff team.
It is about educating the children in our care. To teach them the importance of helping and respecting others, to understand the differences in the world around us. For many children it is a first step into forming their first communities. Demonstrating to the children the positive outcomes of fundraising not only for the charity but for themselves, how happy it can make you feel and of course having lots of fun helping others on the way.
Past charities we have supported
Shabang! (2018-2019)
Shabang! Inclusive Learning is based at The Watershed in Slaithwaite. Is a charity delivering and raising positive awareness through creative projects for children with additional needs. Shabang runs projects for children from babies to pre-school children with weekly sessions called Little Tiddlers. The Up Club drama club for children and young people with Down’s Syndrome, Better Together family events, arts and crafts events for girls and young women and digital photography project Pixel Mates for young adults with disabilities.
Candlelighters (2016-2017)
We are absolutely delighted to announce that over the last year Portland Nurseries has raised a grand total of £8,495 for our nominated charity Candlelighters, a local charity supporting families facing children's cancer in Yorkshire As a company, Portland Nurseries want to ensure that we do what we can to contribute financially to these worthwhile causes. Therefore, we will be doubling what we have raised this year, making that a fantastic grand total of £17,000.

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice (2011-2015)
Portland Nurseries have spent many years supporting local charity Forget Me Not Children's Hospice. Over the years we have raised in excess of £10,000 for the charity and we will continue to support them each Christmas with the "Toy Appeal".

Water Aid (2005-2010)
From 2005-2010 we supported WaterAid which opened up numerous learning opportunities for the children that were incorporated in day to day activities at nursery.
