All children, families and staff members are unique and Portland Nurseries are committed to the inclusion of every one in our care. We promote positive attitudes and provide the best possible support for children with additional needs through careful observations of children, their starting points, needs and interests, planning and differentiating activities accordingly.
Since 1991 we have cared for many children with a range of special needs. We have trained Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOS’s) who plan, implement, monitor, review and evaluate their daily learning and work closely with parents and staff to make sure your child develops alongside their friends.
Staff swiftly identify and support children with a development delay. They implement extensive intervention strategies and make excellent use of additional funding, in consultation with parents and carers.

Support for the most disadvantaged children, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, is incredibly well targeted.
Holly Bank Ofsted Outstanding Report 2024
The special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) has a clear overview of how to support children. She liaises with outside agencies and is very proactive in seeking support and advice. Where referrals may take time, she ensures this waiting time is not wasted. The SENCo quickly puts support in place. Additional funding is used effectively to meet the individual needs of children.
