The children at Portland House Nursery teamed up with Huddersfield YMCA RUFC for a special game of rugby. On Wednesday 19th October Len Swift, Under 13’s coach and nursery parent gave the a lively group of pre-schoolers a class in how to pass, catch and kick the rugby ball in the nursery garden.
Julie Lister Manager at Portland explains “Sport is such a fantastic way for young children to become more involved in the outdoors and is an essential part of a child’s development. It allows a child to stay active and healthy and be part of a fun learning environment, interacting and socialising with their peers while developing basic core motor skills.
There are so many children that spend their free time indoors these days that it’s vital to promote the outdoors as a positive experience.
