The Portland House preschool children had a fabulous time experiencing a journey into to space this week. After creating some spectacular rockets indoors one of their journey’s took them into outer space and they landed on a white crisp moon in the garden. Parents were aboard and assisted our little explorers in building a space station, following one of the children’s instructions where to erect the tarp on the fortress. The children practiced their moon walk using big steps on cans with string which they found an exciting challenge and were curious as they looked at the foot prints they made in the snow comparing sizes and patterns as they carried out their exploration on the moon.
The boat had magically turned into a rocket and the children giggled as they spent time inside it singing songs and discussing where they were flying to next. There were creative science experiments underway and they were particularly intrigued of one outside which the children made patterns of their own galaxy using a tripod stand and mini paper cups creating patterns as it swung across the paper.
Our little space cadets are continuing exploring their space week activities and looking forward to an out of this world themed day on Friday 19th January where I’m sure we will meet lots of space characters along the way.
