World Book Day
The children and staff at Oakwood House Nursery got dressed up as their favourite story characters for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March.
We saw Peppa Pig, Pirates and Princesses as well as Batman and even Alice in Wonderland! They brought in their favourite books and parents joined them for an extra special Stay and Play that afternoon in which all the children were given free Book Start packs and read their favourite stories.
The children took part in activities based on the story “Room on the Broom” they made their own witches hats and wands.
The parents were also given a book called ‘Their Name is Today’ all about the importance of childhood and play. The pre-school children particularly enjoyed a trip to Lindley Children’s Book Shop to spend their book tokens.
World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
