Snow is a wonderful medium for mark making and as soon as the snow arrived at Oakwood House the children were outside wrapped up warm in the nursery garden ready for fun. The children created some wonderful spontaneous mark making moments. They gathered sticks from the woodland and made shapes and patterns, and some of the children wrote their names. They made snow angels with their arms and legs too. We talked about the sensory experience of snow, the feel of it, how cold it was to touch. To explore and investigate snow and ice through the senses of touch, hearing and sight is a magical experience and even as adults we get excited about ‘playing’ in the snow!
