Today at Portland House our staff member Mandeep has been talking with preschool about Vaisakhi. Vaisakhi marks the first day of harvest.
Mandeep told us that she had celebrated this festival with her family yesterday. She explained that it is an important festival to celebrate the farmers, their animals and the food they create for us. We discussed that we can also do this by looking after our environment and helping to keep it clean. Mandeep said around this time people often like to eat sweet foods, her favourite being the yellow rice! But most importantly preschool loved that it can also be celebrated by flying kites. So Mandeep helped preschool to create and design their own kites which they could then fly around the preschool garden!
