Tropical Fruits Day

Holly Bank children had lots of fun celebrating Tropical Fruits Day at nursery and exploring a wonderful selection of colourful and unusual fruits!

We talked about the names, colours, sizes, tastes and appearances of the different fruits and enjoyed exploring how they were all different. We also noticed the differences in their seeds, giving us the opportunity to develop our curiosity and early understanding of the world around us.

We explored:
🍊 Orange
🥭 Mango
🍍 Pineapple
🐉 Dragon fruit
💜 Passion fruit
🥝 Kiwi
💚 Papaya
🌿 Physalis

The children particularly enjoyed using our crocheted Hungry Caterpillar! We laid out all the different fruits and named them together before encouraging the children to post the fruits into the caterpillar's mouth. We talked about the different colours and sizes, helping to build and develop their vocabulary and word banks.

We also enjoyed exploring our fruit playdough cutters in colourful playdough. We demonstrated how to squash the cutters into the dough to make different fruit shapes while naming each fruit. We encouraged the children to listen to and repeat the names, using phrases such as “yellow banana” and “green apple” to encourage our older children to begin putting two words together.

It was a fantastic day of sensory exploration, language development and learning through play, with lots of opportunities to discover new fruits and expand our vocabulary!
