Top of the Morning on St Patricks Day

The children are celebrating St Patricks Day today at Oakwood House and have been helping to make some colcannon Irish mash! Colcannon is traditionally made from mashed potatoes, cabbage and spring onion.

The children used potato peelers and small knives to peel and prepare the potatoes ready to cut and the children have helped to chop some spring onion and cabbage.

When talking about St Patricks Day’s day some of the children made links to home and experiences they have had. “We go to Ireland on holidays, my granny lives there, her house has no steps”.

The children then took the vegetable peelings outside and put them in the compost bin.

In the afternoon the children enjoyed eating their home made colcannon mash for snack time and have made an Irish flag to take home.
