The Harlequin children took part in the Big Birdwatch in January. We have recently noticed lots of visitors in our garden from pigeons to magpies and wanted to see who else was coming to visit us during our days at nursery. The children located their binoculars and set off into the garden to identify the different birds flying around outside. We saw robins, blue tits, sparrows, wood pigeons and blackbirds, we even noticed a few cheeky squirrels jumping across our fences. The children were concerned that the recent cold weather had left no food for the birds to eat so they made some cakes for the birds using log slices, mud and bird seed ‘sprinkles’, before placing them onto our bird feeders and waiting for them to be nibbled at.
Inside at Harlequin, we recreated our feathered friends using collage materials, scissors and lots of googly eyes! The results were amazing and they have pride of place on our display wall. Maybe the birds in the forest will come to take a look as well!
