The Portland House holiday club children really embraced the £10 Aldi supermarket shop task which was to buy and cook their own meal for everyone in the holiday club. All the children discussed their ideas collectively for what they wanted for tea whilst thinking about everyone's dietary requirements and allergies before setting off on their walk up to the local Aldi supermarket.
They wrote a shopping list and used a calculator in the shop to make sure they had enough money to buy their ingredients and looked up on the computer how much food they would need for each person. When they got back to the setting they practiced their cooking skills making pasta, salad, garlic bread and lemonade chopping and cooking the ingredients themselves.
The preschool children even treated them to some homemade cookies for pudding that they had made in cooking club that morning. There was even a few pence change too so they were very proud to have stayed within budget to complete their shopping challenge!
