When in the garden the Harlequin preschool children noticed vehicles travelling at different speeds and wondered why. The children had lots of theories and ideas as to why some vehicles are slow and some were fast. We decided to test their hypotheses using a ramp and toy vehicles. Some children hypothesised that larger and heavier vehicles move slower as they carry more weight. Other children hypothesised that emergency vehicles moved faster because they are equipped with a siren to alert other drives to slow down. We had lots of fun racing and testing the different vehicles in our experiment and had some surprising results!
