Spring has Sprung!

Spring has officially arrived and we’ve welcomed the new season with open arms—and plenty of excitement! The children have been busy exploring all the signs of spring and learning about the many changes happening in nature.

We began by celebrating the return of the birds! And following on from national bird watch week we have continued the learning. The children have been eagerly watching the bird feeders, which have been filled and ready for the birds to arrive. We’ve seen a variety of feathered friends return to our garden, including Robins, Magpies, and Sparrows. To make it extra special, the toddlers created their own bird feeders to take home, and we’ve invited parents to send pictures of the birds they’ve spotted around their homes. It’s been wonderful to see the children connect with nature and observe the birds up close.

With the weather getting warmer, we’ve been spending even more time outdoors. As we explore the garden, we’ve also spotted some creepy crawly creatures coming out of hiding and landing on our flowers. This led us to explore a fun bug book to identify the different insects we’ve seen. We discussed which creatures they were and talked about others we might encounter in the coming weeks—like busy bees buzzing around the flowers!

The children have been back down cooking up a storm in our mud kitchen with the new arrival of a potion bench as we move into warmer weather.

To get even more creative, we’ve been making spring themed pictures using paints and craft materials. The children loved using their imagination to create these beautiful pictures. We talked about how spring brings new life and talked about the simple life cycles of the frog, chicken and sheep.

In addition to all our creative activities, we’ve also been doing a little gardening and tidying up the growing beds for the new season! The toddlers have been planting seeds and learning about how things grow. It’s been a wonderful way to connect the children to the natural world and give them a hands-on understanding of the changes that come with spring.

It’s been a week full of discovery, creativity, and outdoor fun! We’re so excited to continue welcoming spring and all the beautiful changes it brings.
