At Portland House the children in daisy room have enjoyed exploring the snow over the recent weeks and spent lots of time wrapped up warm playing in it. We used this opportunity to explore and learn about cold, wet and melting and made and followed foot prints to see where they led and the patterns they made. The children used the snow to fill buckets to build snow castles; they also created snowmen and a snow rabbit by rolling it into circles and then collecting natural materials to use as facial features creating opportunities for counting and matching.
The winter experience was also explored excitedly indoors by bringing the snow inside. We also made different coloured ice and froze objects such as ribbons and leaves in them. As the children played the ice melted and they discovered with delight what hidden treasures were inside.
