Reading books at Lindley Library

Harlequin preschool children visited Lindley Library today. Working on story telling topics this month children visited the library and enjoyed looking for books that are in their interest to look at and read. They have chosen their favourite books and brought them to the nursery to show and share with their younger friends.

Reading stories from a very early age is crucial in the development of children. It helps with their ability to understand words, use their imagination and develop their speech, as well as being something they really enjoy. Especially for the preschool children reading books supports school readiness by improving literacy and listening skills. When children enter school they should know concepts related to books such as how to hold and turn the pages of a book and that the pictures are related to the story. Exposure to books enhances these skills.
