In celebration of read a book day Harlequin have been enjoying our new topical books. Recent statistics show “1 in 3 disadvantaged children in the UK don’t have enough books to call their own.
Our most popular book has definitely been “The Hairy toe”. The book creates anticipation surrounding an old woman who finds a hairy toe and who comes looking for it 😊
Other new additions to our collection of topical books include ‘The tree full of wonder’, ‘The witches cat’, ‘That’s not my hedgehog’ and ‘The leaf thief.’
The children enjoyed a visit to Oakwood’s very own Acorn library and we enjoyed reading books in all kinds of places. We read books in dens, books in the garden and books at group circle time.
We are currently focusing on enriching the children’s learning by adding to our story bag collection the latest addition being ‘The 3 little pigs’. We also spoke to the children about how we care for our books.
We will be exploring the story over the coming weeks with a 3 little pigs themed tuff tray.
The babies had lots of fun exploring their favourite books. They made a den to read 'We're going on a bear hunt' in and then hunted for bears in the garden. Using the puppets they matched the animals together whilst reading 'Dear zoo' and fed food to 'The very hungry caterpillar' learning colours and early counting skills as we turned each page.
We have also added a few new books to our well used Community library.
