Over 50 staff from Portland Nurseries met on Friday, November 6th to review the year 2008-9, celebrate their successes and announce the winners of the Child Carer of the Year Awards. This was part of their annual training day based on ‘Planning for the Individual Child’ with a strong focus on the outdoor environment. Parents nominated individuals and a winner was chosen from each Nursery. Kirstie Landers was the winner from Harlequin, Samantha Coldwell from Holly Bank and Debbie Boyes from Portland House. The three winners were presented with engraved Jade glass Awards and a cheque for £100 each. A Special ‘Teamwork’ Award was presented to the staff at Harlequin Nursery for their excellent work and their excellent cooperation, collaboration and communication as a team. A number of staff were applauded for their commitment to professional development and attaining childcare qualifications, from NVQ Level 2 right up to Early Years Management Degree level. Rosemary Murphy OBE congratulated the winners for their exceptional contribution during the year and commended all the staff for their dedication and high quality practise. She also encouraged the staff to continue developing ideas and activities for the new outdoor play areas, which were recently transformed by their successful bids for Quality and Access Grants from Kirklees Early Years Service.
