On Monday 11th December the preschool children at Portland House joined together with staff and parents in the local church St Stephens at Lindley to perform their traditional nativity story. The children had been practising their acting skills, taking on important roles such as Mary, Joseph, Kings, shepherds, angels, innkeepers and animals. They were all very excited to be wearing their special costumes. Each child had a part to play and if not acting then they sang in the choir and had made kings crowns to wear for the occasion. At the end of the nativity performance the children sang a medley of festive songs, such as their favourite ‘Mary had a baby’ and Jingle bells. The event was a great success and the church was full of proud parents and relatives watching their children perform. Refreshments were served afterwards and a variety of festive crafts made by the children and staff were available to purchase. All proceeds from the sale of the tickets, refreshments and crafts were to be donated to the nursery’s chosen charity ‘Candlelighters’ and also the church. It was a truly wonderful uplifting experience bringing communities and families together, a wonderful start to our festive celebrations.
