This week the Fairfield children have been celebrating National Tree Week. Toddlers have enjoyed nature hunting, talking about size and colour of leaves and sticks as we foraged around the garden. We used the natural materials we found outside to then create some beautiful pictures. The children used their fine motor skills when holding on to the twigs to dip in to the paint. We used our sticks to mix the different colours, experimenting on the paper with the colours.
Babies have used their whole bodies to explore the colour green. They have been making marks on a large scale, watch in fascination at the movements they make with the tools leave marks behind. We introduced lots of natural tree colours in to their environment, exploring green water play, using green blocks to build and balance, and green items in the sand tray. The babies have explored the outdoors in the snow, using sticks to make marks and watching as they make snow angles.
Preschool have been discussing why trees are important in the world, how many different trees there are and how many they see on their way in to nursery from home. The children then wanted to make their own trees in the playdough, we went on a nature hunt in the garden and found the resources the children felt they would need to make their trees. The children have been focusing on size and comparisons, we have encouraged the children to do leaf rubbing, using lots of variety in size, we then put these in order and compared the different sized leaves we had.
