The children in pre-school at Oakwood House have been experimenting and have had lots of fun making a volcano.
They added bicarbonate of soda to a bottle, some red food colouring and then poured in some vinegar. The children all made predictions about what would happen “I think it’s going to go bang and shoot up.“
They were amazed and thrilled to see the reaction and watch the ‘lava’ bubble over. An interesting way to use an old plastic bottle.
In this hands-on experience, the children learnt about how ingredients are combined to create chemical reactions. The scientific concepts and discussions that followed created some wonderful learning and new language.
