We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees to Portland House Nursery today to officially open our newly enhanced outdoor play area; along side representatives from the National Day Nurseries Association, our nursery managers , staff, parents and children.
Our newly enhanced outdoor play areas at Portland House Nursery allow children to play in a natural, challenging, adventurous environment. All made from natural and reclaimed materials of the highest quality while taking into consideration the impact on the environment.
Importance of outdoor play for children
We believe that outdoor learning, play and connection with nature are the fundamental parts of every child’s education. The positive impact outdoor play has on a child’s learning and development in the early years plays a crucial part in a child’s later adult life. Engaging in quality time in the outdoors not only allows a child to be physical, it increases their well-being, health and happiness; core values of Portland Nurseries.
What you will find in our new nursery garden
Amongst many of the exciting natural features you will find a giant oak tunnel for the children to crawl through and climb over. There is a hobbit den with a natural growing turf roof, a meandering stream that channel’s water to a natural wooden hand carved mud kitchen. Natural wooden balance beams that look like twisting snakes, chestnut frames with scramble nets. There are wooden forts, tree houses and dens too.
