The children at Bradley House have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Lunar New Year and exploring the traditions in fun, hands-on ways.
Our preschool children took part in a special fine motor activity where they used chopsticks to carefully pick up different sized pieces of wool and ribbon and place them into bowls. This creative activity helped to replicate noodles and encouraged the children to develop their hand–eye coordination, concentration, and perseverance while learning about traditional foods associated with the celebration.
The toddler children enjoyed listening to the story of The Great Race, discovering how the animals were chosen for the zodiac calendar. They were fascinated to find out which animal year they were born in and loved sharing their discoveries with their friends. This sparked wonderful conversations about similarities and differences, while also supporting turn-taking and listening skills during group time.
Our babies explored Lunar New Year through sensory experiences, particularly focusing on the colour red, which symbolises good luck and happiness. They enjoyed exploring red paint, textured materials, and different shades of red through creative play. The babies also had great fun creating dragons using tissue paper and making their own lanterns to decorate the nursery. These activities allowed them to express themselves freely while engaging their senses in a meaningful and creative way. It has been a joyful celebration filled with cultural learning, creativity, and curiosity across all age groups.
