The Harlequin children have been studying, observing and caring for house plants this week. We cared for basil, coriander and calathea plants.
The children loved exploring the plants using their senses. We found that the calathea was soft and velvety to touch, the basil had a strong smell and could be used in food recipes and the coriander could also be used in cooking and was delicate to the touch. Our children learned how to care for the plants, understanding that they needed warmth, sunlight and water to survive. We learned about the different parts of the plants and learned new words like ‘stem’ and ‘roots.’
