Holi, the vibrant Hindu "Festival of Colours" and spring festival, marks the end of winter is celebrated on the last full moon in the lunar month which usually occurs in March.
'Holi' is the Hindu festival of love, colours and spring, it is an opportunity to throw a giant party celebration to say 'Hello' to Springtime.
The children across all ages at Portland House had so much fun celebrating the Hindu festival Holi, enjoying a multitude of activities exploring colours to celebrate throughout the day.
Preschool learned that in March as flowers start to grow and the sun stays out longer, people celebrate by throwing colourful powders and water at each other. Our preschool children enjoyed making their own rainbow by mixing paint and water inside seven cups, and putting napkins stripes on top, to watch the water travelling from cup to cup. Outside, we enjoyed moving ribbons sticks around to make colourful rainbows up in the air. The children also enjoyed drawing colourful rainbows and pictures on a giant paper.
The babies fully emersed themselves in colour using their senses to explore colour through different arts and crafts they particularly enjoyed creating a giant mural with body art painting, colour mixing and patterns that they made, and looking at environments through transparent colour materials. Toddlers enjoyed experimenting with colour to create a wonderful shaving foam activity which they could make rainbows and practise colour mixing.
A very colourful and fun day was had by everyone.
