On Thursday 15th August was Granny Square Day. “ A blanket is a gift of comfort and love”
In celebration of this event a quest was set for the Portland Nurseries families across our 6 sites to help us to create a charity patchwork blanket. We invited our parents and their family members to help with our quest by knitting or crocheting a 4 inch square which would be sewn together to make the blanket gift.
We had a superb response with an array of beautiful coloured and patterned squares donated across the sites which has enabled us to make several big beautiful colourful blankets. The children have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the process of the blanket creations with some of them helping their grandparents to make the squares, sewing them together and to even have a little cheeky snuggle under them as they have explored the colourful squares and patterns.
The blankets will be raffled off to raise money for our nominated charity Candlelighters, if you would like the opportunity to win one of these amazing blankets the charity tickets will be available to purchase from your child’s key person for £2.00 each raffle ticket or 3 x tickets for £5.00. The purchases can be added to your account if preferable to paying by cash. All proceeds received through the ticket sales will be donated to this very worthwhile charity.
The tickets will be drawn on Monday 25th November to give you plenty of opportunity to purchase your raffle tickets and we will announce by email the lucky winners of the blankets.
The blankets will be just in time for cosy winter snuggles and story telling at home with your families. Hope you are a lucky winner!
