We had lots of fun at Holly Bank getting active and celebrating Global Running Day in the garden!
For babies we created a colourful running track using our squishy coloured sensory squares and encouraged the children to run, walk and explore across them. As they stepped and moved over the squares, they could see the coloured liquid moving and changing inside, creating a fun sensory experience alongside our physical activity.
The children enjoyed watching what happened as they moved across the different squares, encouraging their curiosity, coordination, balance and gross motor skills. It was also a great opportunity to practise turn-taking. When the children reached the end of the line, we encouraged them to return to the start and have another go, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to join in.
Keeping Active and Caring for Our Environment
Our outdoor activities also link closely with our Eco-Schools Award, which we are incredibly proud to have achieved. Spending time outdoors helps children develop a positive connection with the natural environment and encourages them to appreciate and care for the world around them.
Regular physical exercise outdoors is also an important part of supporting children's overall wellbeing. Running, walking and active play help children develop their strength, balance, coordination and confidence, while fresh air, natural surroundings and opportunities to explore can support positive emotional wellbeing too.
It was wonderful to see the children enjoying being active, exploring cause and effect, developing their physical skills and having fun outdoors together while celebrating Global Running Day!
