Flower Power

The Poppies at Holly Bank were provided with an array of bright flowers, which were placed in the water tray and the soil.

Some children pretended to make flower soup with water whilst others made imaginary “hot chocolate drinks” out flowers garnished with soil. Imaginary play can easily be inspired by adding simple enhancements to the environment.

Some of the younger children were fascinated by simply pulling the petals off one by one, which actually encourages fine motor development skills which are essential for children to develop to enable them to write.

The children were engaged with the flower activities all morning and were keen to explore them again in the afternoon!
