First day of Autumn

In celebration of the first day of Autumn here at Harlequin we have been busy noticing the seasonal changes talking place outside in our immediate and wider environment. By looking at how the season changes our surroundings watching the leaves change colour from green to various shades of orange, red and brown.

The children collected conkers on the way back from their visit to Oakwood’s library upon our return the children added these to our autumn themed tuff tray we enjoyed rolling them in paint and then onto paper to make a large group masterpiece.

We made autumnal play dough smelling of cinnamon and pine, using lots of fine and gross motor skills to mix up the dough and add sticks to make our very own hedgehogs.

We used assorted leaf playdough cutters and talked about the many varieties of trees and read the ‘Leaf Thief’ and the ‘Tree of wonder’ at story time to help embed what we had learnt.

We are excited to continue exploring this season looking at how our environment changes around us.
