As we wrap up warm as the colder months approach, the Fairfield preschool children have been exploring habitats in the garden and incorporate learning through STEM.
We have used a variety of different materials to make a birds nest, the children have been reading “owl babies” and have used materials they think would keep their baby birds safe and warm over the winter.
We discussed what the birds might eat, why they build their nests high in the tree to avoid predators, and that baby birds are called chicks that hatch from an egg. We used lots of mathematical concepts when choosing different sizes and shapes of materials that we foraged from the garden.
