Exploring Autumn - Stay and Play

In the toddler room at Portland House we have been exploring Autumn and enjoyed sharing this with our families during our Stay and Play. We started in the garden foraging for pinecones, sticks, herbs and all different coloured leaves collecting them to bring inside. Once inside we made some Autumn coloured playdough and used our natural materials we had collected to make faces in the playdough. The children thought about their own facial features, we talked about what we could use to represent our eyes, ears, nose, mouth and hair. We used lots of language relating with numbers, counting, shape, size and colour.

While exploring the playdough we also looked at the different colours and textures of the leaves. The children could see the patterns on the leaves, we had a go pressing the leaves down into the playdough then peeling them back to reveal the pattern on the playdough.
