On Thursday 27th July one of the preschool dads at Portland House came in to do a spectacular art session with the children. Stuart very kindly brought in lots of different supplies and art resources from his local art shop located in the Byram Arcade. He talked to the children about what they were called, their purpose and encouraged them to have a go with them, all of which created lots of opportunity for discussions.
Stuart talked to the children about some of the exciting things you could find in his art shop and they were particularly interested in the shop till many eager to have a go at operating it and seeing where the money would go. He brought lots of art materials and showed the children some easels that you would use to put the canvas on while you are doing your painting.
We learnt about some of the famous artists and saw some pictures of their art work such as Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gough as well as seeing artwork designed by local artists at a doodleathon.
As Stuart had brought along lots of art materials the children thoroughly enjoyed using during a carousel workshop in which they spent time at each art table creating models with air drying clay, designing their own pencil case and creating their own masterpiece on a mini canvas using acrylic paint pens to take home which inspired lots of concentration and questions.
Stuart kindly donated lots of art materials for the children to keep at nursery to enable the children to continue their art session at nursery. Great fun was had by all and we had some truly wonderful creations made by our very own preschool budding artists.
If you fancy joining in with some art sessions and trying new skills you would be welcome to pop along to Stuarts shop and enquire about upcoming events.
