Holly Bank children enjoyed celebrating Environment Day by showing lots of care and kindness towards our plants and flowers.
The children had great fun using our mini watering cans to help give the plants a much-needed drink. We talked about how the sunshine can make our plants and flowers thirsty, just like us, and discussed why it is important to care for and look after living things.
As we explored the plants together, we talked about the different parts and introduced some lovely new vocabulary, including “petals,” “leaves” and “stem.” This provided a wonderful opportunity to support the babies' communication and language development as they listened, explored and began to recognise new words.
We’re also celebrating a special achievement!
We are very proud to share that Holly Bank has recently been awarded our Eco-Schools Award! 2026
The Eco-Schools Award recognises settings that are taking positive steps to care for the environment and involve children in developing an understanding of sustainability. It celebrates the work we do to help children learn about looking after our planet, caring for nature, reducing waste and making environmentally friendly choices.
It is fantastic to see our youngest children already developing a love and respect for the natural world. We are excited to continue building on this and helping our little ones learn that even the smallest actions can make a big difference!
