Earth Day is celebrated each year during the month of April to help people understand how we can best keep our planet healthy. At Harlequin, we have been teaching our children about our planet and what we can do as a nursery to save the planet. In conjunction with our Eco Schools project, we have been learning about recycling especially those things we may recycle in nursery such as paper, metal, food waste and plastic. We have been making an attempt to reduce single use plastics such as carrier bags and have been quite successful.
The children wanted to make their own globe using natural resources so we used a blue hula hoop and foraged for materials to make the different continents. The children used moss, leaves and other natural resources to put together their globe.
The children have also been learning about saving water and energy, one of our children explained that we should only turn on the taps when we are washing our hands or brushing our teeth.
