Oakwood pre-schoolers have been celebrating Diwali the Hindu festival of light. The children have been busy creating their own clay diva lamps decorated with colourful shiny sequins, paper and card, the children then explored light patterns using torches. The children have recreated their own rangoli patterns on a large scale outside and on a smaller scale inside after exploring Rangoli designs. They have also really enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Rama and Sita.’
The toddlers created their own Rangoli patterns in paints and salt with brushes of all different sizes. Did you know the date for Diwali changes each year depending on the moon? It symbolises the end of the harvest season. You may see lots of fantastic fireworks in the sky filled with colour and sparkle.
We created our own lanterns to celebrate the light. Lanterns are a traditional park of Diwali and are used to guide the Hindu goddess of wealth - Lakshmi home. Don’t forget to look out of your windows this weekend to see the sky lit up with fireworks!
