This week at Fairfield we have been focusing on children’s mental health, we have been exploring our emotions through colours like the ‘Colour Monster.’
Babies have been using their increasing fine motor skills when investigating through their senses in the sand to find different colours, shapes, textures and exploring using cause and effect when filling and emptying containers. Babies have been using different colours when being creative, watching closely at the movements they use to make marks in the paint, alongside introduced new vocabulary through reading and songs.
Toddlers have been exploring their emotions through different activities, discussing how they are feeling, what makes them happy, and linking these to the different coloured monsters. They have enjoyed reading stories about emotions and they made connections to our nursery rules and home.
Preschool have been describing their own feelings when drawing their colour monsters, at circle time they have used colours to identify how they are feeling, they talked about how we can support and celebrate each other’s feelings, what acts of kindness we do to make us feel happy again through times of sadness. We have engaged in mindfulness activities outside in the garden and calming wellbeing activities indoors such as yoga.
