Across the nursery the Fairfield children have been celebrating Burns Night, the Scottish tradition. With this we have embraced lots of the Scottish culture through activities, stories and songs.
We have been making Loch Ness monster play dough sculptures, strengthening our shoulder, elbow and wrist movements preparing us for writing skills and using tools in a more controlled way.
We have explored lots of different Scottish food, toddlers and preschool have made some shortbread biscuits to take home and share with their families.
Our older children have been tuning in to sounds and making their own bag pipes using a variety of different materials. This was a great way to get children reviewing their approaches when trying to reach an end goal, and showing a can do effort not giving in when it got difficult trying to make their bag pipes make a sound. We have also been focusing on counting out loud and grouping objects, looking at different ways that we can record our findings, the preschool children enjoyed counting the different Scottish objects and adding them on to a table
