This month in Poppies we have been learning about Black history month. We have looked at lots of different people including Rosa Parks, Maggie Aderin-Pocock and Garrett Morgan. The children have loved getting creative and learning about new people.
Garrett Morgan was an American inventor who was born in 1877. He is most well-known for creating the three light traffic lights in 1923. The children enjoyed learning about Morgan by making their own traffic lights using the different coloured leaves from around the garden.
Maggie Aderin-Pocock is a female Black British scientist who was awarded an MBE for her work with space science. Maggie has loved space since she was a young girl and even learned how to make her own telescope. Now she helps make and design telescopes and teaching both children and adults how fun science really is. We had a go at making some of our own telescopes! The children loved colouring in and designing their telescopes and using them to look for stars around the garden.
