Big Garden Bird Watch

Today in the Holly Bank baby room we have been taking part in the big garden bird watch. We made a bird sound tray and read the book 'What did puppy hear?'. We explored what might be in a birds nest… sticks, pinecones and eggs, and we used the magnifying glasses to look at them more closely. When we went outside we used our binoculars to spot the birds, and we listened carefully to see where they might be. We also found some bird feathers in the garden! And we used words and sounds such as 'tweet' 'big' 'sky' 'bird' to add to our growing vocabulary.

Our preschool children also took part in the “big garden bird watch”. We all looked out of the window to see which birds we could spot and whilst we were outside in the garden too. We used the guidance from the RSPB to check the names of the birds we spotted and we talked about their names and the features of each of the birds. The preschool children used pencils and pencil crayons to draw their favourite birds.
