The Holly Bank babies tuff tray focused on the "that's not my owl book". We added the small puppet owl as a prop and enjoyed feeling the different textures in the book too. We listened to descriptive words such as soft, prickly and rough. Outside in the garden we listened to the birds tweeting and looked up in the trees for them. The babies helped to feed the birds in the willow garden where we sat under the willow den and sang the "two little dicky birds" song. A little robin red breast joined us, he must have loved our singing! We created bird pictures with our hands and fingers. We explored the texture of paint on our hands and printed them onto paper. Our fingers created the feathers of the birds and we added some googly eyes with sticky glue and had a go at making our own bird noises.
The toddlers have been on bird patrol learning all about the different types of birds in our local area. Today we made our own bird feeders to take home. We began by squeezing out the juice from oranges and having a refreshing drink at snack time. We then scooped out all of the orange and used them to hold our fat and seeds. The toddlers used their fantastic hand eye coordination to scoop in bird food. They took their bird feeders home and of course will be on the lookout for any birds having a nibble in their gardens!
