On the 8th of January the Portland House Bluebell and Sunflower children were visited by some very interesting guests!
Peter the ranger brought a variety of small animals and insects; including a snake, a gerbil, a giant centipede and a tarantula for the children to see. The children were encouraged to listen to Peter as he told them about each creature and follow instructions to act out certain behaviours. For example hiding from an owl like a gerbil and doing a conga line to represent how the centipede moves. The children then had the opportunity to feel each creature if they wanted to. They remaked “It feels soft” bout the gerbil and one of our little girls stated “I like the snake best”.
The children really enjoyed the experience and spent the afternoon depicting their favourite part of the day through mark making.
