30 days wild – Day 5 – Building Bridges

A puddle can be a great provocation for problem solving. The children found a large puddle I the garden and were trying to work out how to cross it without getting their wellies wet. A lot of discussion ensued as to how they get over the water. Two boys worked together to move a heavy log and positioned it over the puddle. Their friends came to join in and help and in the end we had a large structure over the puddle which the children could easily walk across without getting their feet wet.

Lots of mathematical learning was going on during their play, weight, length, position, height. They made excellent bridge builders.
