Portland Nurseries staff gathered at their annual training day to congratulate Anne Watson for being the first employee to have worked for the company for 25 years. Anne was presented with an array of gifts including a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a restaurant voucher, and engraved clock to symbolise her time with the company, she also received a company Holiday Voucher. Anne qualified as a nursery nurse in 1977 worked in nursery schools in Huddersfield and in Germany before joining Portland House in 1993. For many years she oversaw the baby room and her great knowledge and sympathetic ear helped many first-time mothers through difficult periods as they started back to work, leaving their babies for the very first time. More recently she has been working with the pre-school children preparing them for that important transition to school. There will be hundreds of families in the Huddersfield area that will recall with affection and how their children blossomed under her care. In this rapidly expanding sector it is now unusual to find people working for the same company for such a long time. Manager of Portland House Nursery Julie Lister said “I am extremely proud and privileged to have worked alongside Anne for 23 years and as her manager watch her own growth and development enrich that of the children and whole staff team. With the children and families at the heart of everything she does it is so rewarding to watch the children under her care, flourish, develop and grow up to be confident individuals” Anastasia Murphy General manager said “Anne has been an invaluable member of the team supporting staff across all 4 nurseries with her vast wealth of experience and knowledge, playing a crucial part in the lives of hundreds of children in Huddersfield.
