Today at Oakwood House we presented Shabang with a cheque for £11,000! Shabang has been Portland Nurseries nominated charity since Sept 2018. We are absolutely thrilled that collectively across our 4 nurseries we have raised such a fantastic amount for this very special charity.
Over the last year children, families and the staff team have taken part in numerous fundraising activities and events for the charity from sunflower challenges, toddler toddles, climbing Scafell in the Lake District, matchbox challenges, bake sales to name a small few.
We have also been very lucky to have had Kim and Russ from Shabang bringing Barnacle Bill and Barmy Bess to our nurseries and putting on some very special mesmerising musical shows for all our children. You can see some photos below from their show today at Oakwood House.
Anastasia Murphy, Managing Director of Portland Nurseries said “Every year we ask our staff team, parents and children to choose a charity close to their hearts that we can support through the nursery. Many of our nursery parents with children who have additional needs receive continued support from Shabang Inclusive Learning, so we felt a connection to this special charity.
We could not be happier with the support and participation we have received from all the families that use our nursery. By raising money and awareness we can help ensure that Shabang can continue their amazing work raising positive awareness and creative projects for children and young adults for years to come. We would also like to thank Kim and Russ for the special performances they have put on at our nurseries for our children and their parents”
Founder of Shabang Kim said "The total raised by Portland Nurseries will make an enormous difference to the work we do for local children with disabilities and their families. We cannot thank the staff and parents of Portland nurseries enough for all their hard work fundraising this year. We are a small local charity and this donation will make a huge difference to us"
Why we fundraise at Portland Nurseries?
Fundraising at Portland Nurseries is not only about raising money but raising awareness, supporting a cause that we believe in; giving out a positive message; helping a charity that is close to our hearts; bringing our nursery community together, the parents, the children, relatives and the staff team.
It is about educating the children in our care. To teach them the importance of helping and respecting others, to understand the differences in the world around us. For many children it is a first step into forming their first communities. Demonstrating to the children the positive outcomes of fundraising not only for the charity but for themselves, how happy it can make you feel and of course having lots of fun helping others on the way.
