Portland Nurseries is searching for an exceptional HR Manager to empower and shape our people agenda, supporting around 6 thriving nurseries across our family-owned group. This role offers fantastic flexibility, blending one office-based day per week at our head office in Huddersfield (HD1) with site visits throughout Huddersfield and Halifax and remote work. Key Responsibilities
HR Advisory & Compliance
- Oversee core HR administration, including recruitment, onboarding, employee lifecycle, and HR systems
- Provide expert guidance on employment law, policies, and best practices
- Support managers with grievance & disciplinary processes, performance management, and absence reviews
- Champion workplace improvements that build strong morale, engagement, and retention
HR Strategy & Employee Engagement
- Develop and implement innovative training programmes to enhance employee development & engagement
- Lead the creation of workplace incentives to boost morale & productivity
- Evaluate & refine HR strategies to align with industry trends & business goals
- Shape a forward-thinking HR approach to ensure a competitive, thriving workplace
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with leadership to embed a learning culture and drive strategic HR initiatives
- Ensure all mandatory HR training is delivered effectively and lead new training rollouts
- Develop strong relationships with universities and schools to maintain a robust talent pipeline
- Oversee workplace investigations & ER meetings, ensuring fairness and compliance
