"Again" "Again "

In celebration of Children’s Book Week 13th -19th May Oakwood House held a book themed Stay and Play for all the children and families.

Along side this toddlers and pre-school children focus on a new book each month at the nursery “Book of the Month”. One of the main advantages of repeatedly reading the same book to young children is that it helps them retain new words having a beneficial effect on vocabulary learning. Its also a great opportunity for children to hear their favourite story again and again.

A recent article published in Nursery World explains

"A new study shows that reading the same books to children over and over again helps them to retain new words. This research suggests that it's not the number of books, but the repetition of each book that leads to greater learning. Children don't necessarily need a vast quantity of books, but they do benefit from repeated exposure to those books”
