Portland House is a well-loved Ofsted Outstanding nursery situated in Lindley. It was established in 1991 and is a benchmark for quality childcare throughout the area.
Our welcoming light spacious rooms are excitingly resourced and are led by a team of passionate, dedicated, highly experienced staff members. There is a strong focus on outdoor play and we take a Forest School approach to our play and learning giving your child the freedom to explore the natural world. Within our gardens you will find a giant oak tunnel for the children to crawl through, hobbit den with a natural growing turf roof, tree houses and tree platforms, wooded areas, nature trails, mud kitchens, sandpits, and raised beds for planting and growing vegetables and flowers.
The nursery has close links with the local schools and the community and we pride ourselves on our strong relationship with our parents. We encourage you to be involved throughout your child’s time with us from sharing those special moments from home, to Stay and Plays, charity events and parents evenings. Working together you can be confident that your child will reach their full potential.

Portland House Nursery is the only nursery in Kirklees and Calderdale to have now achieved four successful Ofsted Outstandings.
We have always felt that Portland House staff make an effort to get to know our children and make them, and us, feel valued. We have used Portland House for our childcare for over a decade and in that whole time we have NEVER been disappointed with the care our children have received it has been excellent!

I’ve been really impressed with Portland, not only are children socialised and encouraged to be creative and exploratory, but they are also set up so well for starting the transition to school. My youngest child is in preschool currently and at every stage his development has been encouraged, he has taken part in a huge range of activities and learning opportunities. The personal development and well-being supported by the staff is second to none, he has had such strong support and care from the staff at all stages. The nursery has a real caring feel from all staff at all levels. Leadership is really strong and the organisation of the nursery and community/charity events are fabulous.
My son had a delay with speech and language, I was in touch with the health visitor and we took him for private speech therapy, I passed on all resources and his key worker worked with him and us to support. He is now at age related due to this holistic support. My eldest child left last year. The support and lead from a QTS staff member was incredible. She had such a great base of phonics, simple maths as well as lots of softer skills when starting school the transition was great. They have been exposed to lots of different experiences and we have been really pleased with the childcare provision at Portland.
