FAIRFIELD PARENT CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2025

The end of the year is coming close, and we would like to reflect on all the fantastic things Fairfield has achieved with the support of all our families.

Fairfield have been awarded their ECO school award; our children explored a variety of activities to help us understand what we can do to protect our planet. We have also achieved our Dingley’s promise accreditation to support our inclusive practise.

We introduced our sharing library in the foyer that has been lovely to see children using to sharing their stories with each other and their families at home.

We have taken part in many different events and festivities, we have celebrated different religions, culture and celebrations with the children in cooking club, our preschool children have started their language classes and toddlers take part in music classes each week.

We would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the team to thank you all for your continued support during 2025, have a magical Christmas, a very Happy holiday and a fantastic new year. We cant wait to see what 2026 has in store for us.

Diary Dates

Nursery will be closed on the evening of Wednesday 24th December for our Christmas break and will reopen on Friday 2nd January 2026.

Spring Staff training day

We will be closed on Friday 24th April 2026 for our Spring staff training day, as you are aware staff training and development is vital to ensure that Portland nurseries provide the highest standard of care for children and families. We appreciate your understanding in the importance of closing the nursery for a day to ensure that the staff have the most up to date training.

Learning focus at the moment

Preschool

Children are at the very start of their school readiness journey and what fantastic progress they are making so far. They are now able to follow simple instructions in cooking club as they learn how to weigh, measure and use equipment safely. We have been enjoying our weekly language class, learning colours in French, how to say simple things such as 'goodbye, thank you, see you soon. '

We have learnt our colours and have been praising each other when they have tried exceptionally hard and awarded “star of the day”.

Toddlers

Our resilience and independence is flourishing as we get ready to go and play outside, we can dress ourselves, we can find our own wellies most of the time and can put our hats on the correct way around. Toddlers are developing their understanding of boundaries and how to play in small groups, taking turns with each other and are increasingly adding more words to sentences to make their understanding clear to others.

We have been learning about lots of different celebrations, we have incorporated our love for STEAM when learning about Hanukkah and Christmas, practising our fine motor skills when decorating the Christmas tree with baubles and using pom poms to decorate a candelabrum.

Babies

As the older babies get ready to move downstairs they have been supported through the independence skills needed in the curriculum to prepare them for the transition to the toddler room. We have been practising using our own spoons at lunch time and introducing a fork. The younger babies are now mastering the skill of an open cup and managing not to spill when they have a drink.

Babies show a love for singing and introducing their vocabulary, in particular using the singing spoons and starting to recognise familiar songs through objects of reference. We have been using the opportunity to be creative when learning about celebrations and festivals encouraging fine motor skills and the effects of using purposeful movements to make marks.
