Learning focus at the moment
Babies This term, our babies have enjoyed a wide range of sensory and creative experiences designed to support their development through exploration and play. One of their favourite activities was a dinosaur-themed sensory tuff tray, where they explored different textures, materials and small-world resources, encouraging curiosity and imaginative play. The children have also been developing their creativity through activities such as lollipop stick painting and large-scale mark making. These experiences have supported their fine and gross motor development while allowing them to freely express themselves through colour, movement and pattern. Another popular activity involved washing toy animals that had become "stuck in the mud". The children thoroughly enjoyed splashing, scrubbing and cleaning the animals, developing their hand-eye coordination and early understanding of caring for living things through sensory water play. We also celebrated Eid with a variety of age-appropriate craft activities, introducing the children to different cultures and celebrations. In addition, the babies took part in World Ocean Day activities, exploring sea creatures and ocean-themed sensory resources while beginning to learn about the world around them. It has been wonderful to see the babies growing in confidence as they explore new experiences, develop their communication skills and engage with the environment through hands-on learning and discovery. Toddlers The toddlers' focus this term has been exploring the environment and learning about the world we live in. The children enjoyed creating their own Planet Earth while discussing ways that we can all help to look after our planet. Through a variety of activities, they learned about caring for the environment and the importance of keeping our world clean and healthy. We also celebrated World Ocean Day, where the children learned about animals that live in the ocean and explored how we can help to protect marine life by recycling rubbish and disposing of waste appropriately. The children particularly enjoyed our "Under the Sea" theme, creating their own colourful jellyfish and fish through a range of creative activities. To further extend their learning, we shared ocean-themed stories including The Rainbow Fish and Tiddler, which encouraged discussions about friendship, kindness and life beneath the waves. The children were engaged throughout the topic and showed great enthusiasm for learning about the amazing world around them. Preschool This term, our preschool children have been busy developing a range of skills as they prepare for their transition to school. A key focus has been early literacy, with the children learning to recognise the initial letter of their name and matching it to other words that begin with the same sound. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities, they have been building their confidence in letter recognition and developing their early phonics skills. The children have also been exploring the world of plants and nature. They have carefully observed and drawn daffodils and other flowers through life painting activities, developing their observation skills and creativity. In our allotment area, the children have taken responsibility for caring for plants, learning about what plants need to grow and how we can nurture living things. As many of our preschool children prepare for school in September, we have been focusing on becoming school ready. The children have explored different types of school uniforms, discussed what school might be like and enjoyed role-playing classroom routines and experiences. Alongside this, we have been supporting their emotional development by exploring a range of feelings, including excitement, shyness and nervousness. Through stories, discussions and activities, the children have been learning how to recognise and talk about their emotions, helping them to feel confident and prepared for their next exciting adventure.
