BRADLEY HOUSE PARENT NEWSLETTER SUMMER TERM 2026

As we move through the summer term, we are delighted to share some of the wonderful moments, achievements and experiences taking place within our Early Years setting. The term has been full of excitement, growth and preparation as the children continue to learn, develop and enjoy new experiences together.

Our preschool children have been very busy preparing for their upcoming graduation and getting ready for their transition to school. Through a variety of activities and experiences, we have been supporting them to build confidence, independence and the skills they will need for this important next step. It has been wonderful to see how much they have grown and matured during their time with us.

We have also been delighted to welcome several new babies and families into our nursery community. Watching our newest children settle in, form relationships with their key people and begin to explore their environment has been a real joy. The lovely sunny weather has provided us with many opportunities to make the most of our outdoor spaces. The children have enjoyed exploring, playing and learning outside, taking part in activities that encourage curiosity, creativity and physical development while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

As we come to the end of the academic year, we would like to take this opportunity to celebrate our wonderful school leavers. It has been a privilege to watch each child grow in confidence, independence and character during their time at nursery. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and the friendships they have formed along the way. As they prepare to begin their next exciting adventure at school, we wish them every success and happiness for the future. We are confident that they will continue to shine, embrace new opportunities and make many wonderful memories. Good luck to all of our graduates – we will miss you and look forward to hearing about all of your future achievements!

As always, it is a privilege to support children through each stage of their journey, celebrating their achievements and watching their confidence, friendships and independence flourish.

Project Update

We are delighted to share that we have successfully completed our Eco-Schools project and have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction in recognition of our commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability. Throughout the project, the children have been actively involved in learning about how to care for the world around them through a variety of hands-on activities and experiences. They have explored topics such as recycling, reducing waste, caring for nature and making environmentally friendly choices in their everyday lives.

We are incredibly proud of the children's enthusiasm and dedication, and this award is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved. It reflects the hard work of the children and staff in creating a more sustainable nursery environment and encouraging positive habits that will benefit our planet for years to come.

Learning focus at the moment

Babies

This term, our babies have enjoyed a wide range of sensory and creative experiences designed to support their development through exploration and play. One of their favourite activities was a dinosaur-themed sensory tuff tray, where they explored different textures, materials and small-world resources, encouraging curiosity and imaginative play.

The children have also been developing their creativity through activities such as lollipop stick painting and large-scale mark making. These experiences have supported their fine and gross motor development while allowing them to freely express themselves through colour, movement and pattern.  Another popular activity involved washing toy animals that had become "stuck in the mud". The children thoroughly enjoyed splashing, scrubbing and cleaning the animals, developing their hand-eye coordination and early understanding of caring for living things through sensory water play.

We also celebrated Eid with a variety of age-appropriate craft activities, introducing the children to different cultures and celebrations. In addition, the babies took part in World Ocean Day activities, exploring sea creatures and ocean-themed sensory resources while beginning to learn about the world around them.    It has been wonderful to see the babies growing in confidence as they explore new experiences, develop their communication skills and engage with the environment through hands-on learning and discovery.

Toddlers

The toddlers' focus this term has been exploring the environment and learning about the world we live in. The children enjoyed creating their own Planet Earth while discussing ways that we can all help to look after our planet. Through a variety of activities, they learned about caring for the environment and the importance of keeping our world clean and healthy.

We also celebrated World Ocean Day, where the children learned about animals that live in the ocean and explored how we can help to protect marine life by recycling rubbish and disposing of waste appropriately. The children particularly enjoyed our "Under the Sea" theme, creating their own colourful jellyfish and fish through a range of creative activities.

To further extend their learning, we shared ocean-themed stories including The Rainbow Fish and Tiddler, which encouraged discussions about friendship, kindness and life beneath the waves. The children were engaged throughout the topic and showed great enthusiasm for learning about the amazing world around them.

Preschool

This term, our preschool children have been busy developing a range of skills as they prepare for their transition to school. A key focus has been early literacy, with the children learning to recognise the initial letter of their name and matching it to other words that begin with the same sound. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities, they have been building their confidence in letter recognition and developing their early phonics skills.

The children have also been exploring the world of plants and nature. They have carefully observed and drawn daffodils and other flowers through life painting activities, developing their observation skills and creativity. In our allotment area, the children have taken responsibility for caring for plants, learning about what plants need to grow and how we can nurture living things.

As many of our preschool children prepare for school in September, we have been focusing on becoming school ready. The children have explored different types of school uniforms, discussed what school might be like and enjoyed role-playing classroom routines and experiences. Alongside this, we have been supporting their emotional development by exploring a range of feelings, including excitement, shyness and nervousness. Through stories, discussions and activities, the children have been learning how to recognise and talk about their emotions, helping them to feel confident and prepared for their next exciting adventure.

Outdoor Focus

Our outdoor learning focus has centred around exploring animals and wildlife within the natural environment. The children have thoroughly enjoyed going on insect hunts, searching for squirrels and birds in the garden, and observing the different creatures that share our outdoor spaces. These experiences have encouraged curiosity, observation skills and a greater appreciation for nature. Alongside this, the children have been developing their gross motor skills through imaginative den-building activities, using a variety of loose parts and natural materials to create structures, shelters and hideaways. These activities have supported teamwork, problem-solving, coordination and physical development while allowing the children to engage in creative outdoor play.

Safeguarding

Mobile Phones

Please can I remind parents that the use of mobile phones on nursery premises is strictly prohibited, you must not take any photographs or videos at nursery or at any nursery events. Using your mobile phone breaks the statutory welfare requirements and is also a breach of safeguarding policies to which we must adhere.

Car Seats

The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is our highest priority. We would like to remind all families of the legal and safety requirements regarding the use of appropriate car seats when transporting children to and from nursery.

All children must be secured in a suitable, properly fitted car seat that meets current safety regulations. This is not only a legal requirement, but a critical measure to protect children from serious injury in the event of an accident.

Please be advised that if a staff member observes a child arriving at or leaving the nursery without being secured in an appropriate car seat, this will be reported in line with safeguarding procedures. In such circumstances, we will not release the child until a suitable car seat is provided to ensure their safe journey.

We understand that situations can occasionally arise unexpectedly; however, children’s safety cannot be compromised. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for all children.
