BRADLEY HOUSE PARENT NEWSLETTER AUTUMN TERM 2025

Hello Autumn!! We wish everyone a toasty warm welcome as we said goodbye for now to the summer and also to our preschool children who have transitioned to school this September and welcome all our new families. As we enter into this vibrant season we are enjoying the rich, colourful palette it brings with all its natural treasures such as conkers, acorns and colourful leaves. Autumn provides the perfect opportunity to teach children about seasonal change. Sensory play lets them see some of the different changes up close as they watch leaves change from green to shades of gold and red, feel the different textures of natural materials and listen to the sounds they make. The children are thoroughly embracing change and are particularly noticing the changes to their outdoor environments, nursery garden and in their local community. With the dark nights drawing in and less daylight hours we are having fun experimenting with light and having fun with lots of different science making dark dens and creating shadows the children have enjoyed creating their own artwork to celebrate and recall the recent Diwali and bonfire events.

Learning focus at the moment

Babies

This term a big focus in the baby room has been developing our vocabulary and language skills. We have been exploring many language rich activities such as nursery rhymes and puppets lots of themed story times and engaging group times. This term has been a very busy one the children have been exploring various activities based around the season autumn we have also been taking part in activities based around the recent and upcoming holidays such as the harvest festival Halloween and Diwali the festival of light. September brought around our latest parents evening at which we were delighted to discuss all of the learning and development we have observed here at nursery. The learning intention for next term will be to focus on personal social and emotional interactions here in our baby room. We will be looking at providing an enabling environment for the children to interact with each other as well as show their individuality. We will also be looking at the upcoming change of season as we will be shortly moving into winter as the colder months start to come closer and exploring the different experiences that brings.

Toddlers

This term, our toddlers have been busy exploring, learning, and having lots of fun through hands-on activities! They have loved spending time outdoors, observing the different shapes, colours, and textures of leaves, and going on bug hunts in the garden. We also had a great time rolling conkers and using them for painting, which helped the children explore colours, movement, and creativity. During circle time, we are reading “The Colour Monster” and talked about our feelings. The children shared how they were feeling and created their own monster drawings to represent different emotions, a wonderful way to support emotional awareness and expression. In our water play area, the toddlers explored role-playing “Pumpkin Soup”, mixing and pouring while pretending to make their own delicious creations. They also enjoyed making Autumn drinks, exploring different textures, smells, and flavours with warm spices, pretend fruit slices, and colourful leaves. These sensory experiences helped them develop language, imagination, and coordination. It’s been a wonderful term full of creativity, exploration, and discovery. We are so proud of all the children for their curiosity and enthusiasm, well done, toddlers!

Preschool

The Preschool children have been busy collecting the lovely, fresh tomatoes from our garden, they were so proud of their harvest! It was wonderful to see their excitement as they picked, counted, and talked about the colours and textures of the tomatoes. We have enjoyed some fantastic extra activities and experienced a variety of visitors coming in to share different learning experiences with the children. During our rugby session with the Giants, the children listened carefully to instructions, showed great teamwork, and practised their running and jumping with growing coordination. It was lovely to see how much their gross motor skills have developed and, of course, everyone had lots of fun finishing the session with the parachute games! Our French class continues to be a favourite, we often hear the children singing French songs throughout the day, such a joy to see how much they enjoy learning new words and melodies the words are on parent zone for you to join in at home. Please speak to a staff member if you would like to know the tune! We have also been exploring the beautiful autumn changes around us, looking closely at the colourful leaves, comparing their shapes and sizes, and having great fun with conkers, especially during our conker rolling activities (and taking some lovely pictures to share!). In our group discussions, we have been focusing on “All About Me”, inspired by the story Elmer. Through this story, we have been learning about our differences, individuality, and feelings. The children have shown wonderful curiosity and kindness as they shared what makes each of them unique. We also in circle time and focused activities explored about our teeth hygiene. Preschool have been learning why it is important to keep our teeth healthy through regular brushing of our teeth, visiting the dentist to keep our smiles healthy. We practiced brushing motions together and talked about what foods help keep our teeth strong. The children were very curious and loved showing how they brush at home and thoroughly enjoyed a visit from one of the babies daddies who is a dentist and kindly came to talk to the children about his job role and keeping our teeth healthy. The thoroughly children enjoyed dressing up and participating in some wonderful role play taking great delight exploring the play utensil props which ended with a lovely story time read by Hassan and a goodie bag to take home to carry on the good tooth brushing activities at home!

Health and wellbeing

As we are entering into the time of year where illness are on the rise I would like to remind you of the exclusion periods for our sickness and illness policy along with the company definition of a well child.

Portland Nurseries defines a well child as follows: A well child is not reliant on Calpol, does not have a high temperature over (37.8 and above), is well enough to participate in all nursery activities, has a normal appetite, is happy and sociable, does not require a greater staff ratio and has normal bowel function.

If any of the above applies to your child then we ask for your support to help minimise the spread of illness by observing exclusion periods and keeping your child at home until they are fully recovered. Any child with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea must be absent from nursery until they have been clear for 48 hours and a child with a temperature must be free from a fever without medicine for 24 hours before they can return.  If you are unsure or require any further guidance then please speak to your nursery manager.

Autumn Outdoor Clothing

As the weather gets colder please ensure your child has suitable clothing to participate comfortably in all aspects of outdoor play that are all clearly labelled with their name and that can be kept at nursery.

We would kindly request that you bring a warm fleece to wear under the outdoor coats and a pair wellingtons for participating in outdoor play. Scarves hats and gloves will be advisable once the weather becomes milder.

Lost and Found Property

We kindly request your cooperation in labelling your child's belongings, including shoes, clothes, hats and other personal items. Clear labelling with your child's name will help ensure that everything is returned to its rightful owner. This simple step will save time and minimise any potential mix-ups. Please check the Lost and Found property boxes periodically to retrieve any misplaced items.
